Who would have thought that a thesis project at Alfred University would develop into a company that serves major burn centers and private physicians around the world?  Well, that is exactly what happened to Mark Dillon, President of Bio Med Sciences Inc.  He realized a need for a better type of wound dressing, a dressing that wouldn’t stick to a patient’s sensitive wound and would also reduce the chance of scar formation.  After many experiments of mixing “teflon” and silicone, Dillon’s hard work paid off and the Silon® product line was created.

These products have given a new meaning to woundcare and scar treatment.  Bio Med Sciences and the family of Silon products were acclaimed as, “the company that best demonstrates the commercialization of a unique, innovative product that creatively and effectively meets a market need.”  On May 15, 2000, Bio Med Sciences Inc. was given the award for Product Innovation, presented by the Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Northeastern Pennsylvania.  Dillon replied with this comment, “It takes opportunity and creative thinking, it also takes a nurturing environment and the right team.”
